Building a bike

Not too many of these types left in the days of automated laser guided machinery. My goal with this overall cycling project has always been about the people behind the bike. This is Joe Depaemelaere. Much like a freelance photographer he is the marketing, production, human resources, builder, and general creative vision behind Primus Mootry Bicycles based in Longmont,Colorado. His craft started as a hobby and has progressed over the years. Please enjoy having a look into the shop. Thanks Joe.

Exhuastion

Made my way back over the the indoor Velodrome again the other day. We showed up late hoping for a scheduled race but soon found out that only two of them bothered to come that night. Regardless, they still raced until exhaustion.

Colorado State Cyclocross

That’s all for Colorado’s cyclocross season for 2009. One more post before I move onto another part of the Colorado Cycling Culture project. Bet you’re glad, right? So cold,so very cold it was on Saturday in Arvada. Not cold enough apparently to stop these amazing men and women from riding their bikes. Thanks for having me everyone. Cheers.

Where’s the crowd?

This was a question I asked myself yesterday at the RRV Cyclocross series in Golden,Colorado yesterday. I headed out yesterday morning with one goal in mind. Make no pictures with people riding bikes. I wanted to get down to the supporters and character of the sport. Turns out it was very slim pickings. Oh well. Next week’s state championships could provide more character. Here are a few from yesterday. Enjoy.

Blue Sky Velo Cup

The Blue Sky Velo Cup was a ghoulishly good time this weekend. Mud,mud, and more mud made for some exciting and colorful moments. Here are a few from my take.

Valmont Cyclocross

I stand atop the one hill at the new Valmont Bike Park in Boulder head spinning trying to grasp this sport. Then it hits me. Cyclocross is an aggressive hybrid of mountain biking and road cycling. Weekend warriors turned badasses. Roadies taking their built up aggression from autos to the dirt. All play nice at the new 45 acre park in eastern Boulder. On a personal note, I’ve never been to a cyclocross race. I guarantee I will be back.

The Colorado Trail

Here’s one from this week’s adventure on the Colorado Trail near Kenosha Pass. I plan on documenting more mountain biking in the late spring of 2010 as I got sidetracked on several other aspects of biking this season. Enjoy for now.

Denver Derailler Collective #2

So last night I went back to the Collective to drop off some prints and only took one camera and two lenses. My intention was to give back to an organization that has given me their time and allowed me into their world with ease. This is something I have not done since a few years ago. I could most likely get up on my soapbox now and talk about how important it is to understand and give back to the subjects photographers follow. Now, if I could only work on being a better self editor. I hadn’t planned on making many more frames but I couldn’t resist the juicy light. Enjoy. Feel free to help me edit this down as well everyone. Cheers.

Lookout Mountain

Four miles of sheer joy and pain as cyclists ascend Jefferson County’s Lookout Mountain on a weekday evening. This mountain has meaning to me personally. As I climb to the top the days thoughts disappear and I’m focused on one goal, finishing. I love this mountain. Here are a couple from the other day. I need to work the light more as the summer slips away into fall. Cheers.
