A couple of months ago my co-worker, Steve Nowland, and I decided to shoot a quick promotional film for a local bike sharing program called B-Cycle here in Denver. We decided to go with the stop motion look and shot over 8,000 frames by the time it was all said and done. Some cameras were mounted to the bike itself while others were hand-held by Steve. We shot this in a day and pieced it together in Final Cut Pro in a couple more days. Have a look.

Raw Nationals

A couple of frames that I’ve been meaning to post up on my personal blog from a future project I’m working on with some folks over at Rich Clarkson and Associates,LLC. This was the 2010 Raw Nationals weightlifting championships held here in Denver recently. For now, here are a few photo leftovers from the event. Thanks for taking a look.

Gorgeous light, sunflower seeds, cheers from behind home plate, and to top it all off used peanut shells as a scoreboard. All this packaged with photographer access that would rival the most trusting of subjects describes the Colorado Rockies sponsored Reviving Baseball in Inner City leagues or better know as RBI. There are over 200 of these Major League Baseball funded teams throughout the nation and roughly 525 kids ages 13-18 in Denver alone. This summer league comes at no cost and carries the goal of getting kids out to combat the affects of gangs and drugs within larger cities.

I’ve never been one to make images of subjects performing for the camera but last night had me thinking while out at the weekly cruiser ride in downtown Denver. I started to think about camera awareness in relation to the given subject. Many of the folks like to get in my field of view and perform for the camera usually I let them do their thing and politely move on and observe from a distance until they forget about my being there. I started to look at several of these images with the mindset that these kids are just being themselves regardless of them looking into my camera or not. In a way every subject alters their behavior when a camera is present sometimes we just fail to notice so. The ideal situation of true personality often shines through after continually documenting one subject for a prolonged period of time. This is trust. As photojournalists we live for this. People letting us into their lives. For now enjoy some canned moments alongside of some visual observations. Cheers.

I managed to fit in a day being a tourist while on assignment in San Francisco,California last weekend. Here are a few less than sweet frames. I’m currently down on my own work while reading Stanley Greene’s “Black Passport.” Inspiring and humbling.

Nicaragua

We had the fantastic opportunity to catch a glimpse of a small portion of southern Nicaragua last week with great friends. Vacationing in a third world country is always humbling and encouraging. Humbling, because it makes us all realize that we have so much in our own country. Maybe it’s too much at times. Encouraging, because it forces me to learn another culture and a very fragmented portion of their language. It’s amazing to see how many know our language when all I know of theirs is enough to greet them politely and ask for cerveza. I’m still working on the second half. Here are just a few of the images made throughout our adventure. Cheers.

Sixty-five gigabytes later I’m home. What a week. As most of the nation watched on television I was wandering the aisles of Lucas Oil Stadium in an attempt to make pictures that both satisfied our client,the NCAA, and myself. What a blast. Cheers.

Three items that have never had much relevance to the Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Oklahoma City until last weekend.
