2012 Winter X Games

May 3, 2012

I owe a portion of my photographic growth on the ESPN X Games. Over the last four years the kind folks at ESPN have been kind and trusting enough to set me free in land of action sports. As of two days ago the X Games announced some growth of their own when they presented the new World X Games host cities. I truly hope and believe that this succeeds.

Jubilation Gold Mine

April 24, 2012

Every now and then one stumbles upon a gem. This one was not painted in beautiful evening light nor was it the most decorated or popular sport by any means. What it did unearth was a goldmine of emotion. Loads. Needless to say, I’m now glad I accepted and willingly tried a sport I’ve never photographed before. Here are a few of my favorite images from this weekend.

Mountain West Indoor Track and Field

March 3, 2012

Championship season is in full swing. Track and Field for the Mountain West Conference is always a visual stimulus overload. I’m photographing one event and on the opposite side of the arena I hear cheering. I resist the temptation to run quickly over to see what’s going on at the weight throw. Be concise I think to myself. Choose something and stick with it long enough. That becomes the mental challenge of the event.

Division One Women’s Volleyball Championship

December 21, 2011

©Joshua Duplechian/NCAA Photos

The Division 1 Women’s Volleyball championship is one I’ve made a point of covering for the last couple of years. I personally enjoy going back and photographing the same championship more than one time. I tend to make better, more thought out, images when I can properly plan ahead of time. I’m already looking forward to next year. Cheers.

Women’s College Cup

December 15, 2011

As 2011 comes to a close a new championship season begins. With each new season beginning we all start traveling to various cities throughout the country to gather images for the NCAA. Last week was the Women’s College Cup in Kennesaw, Georgia. Here are a few images I personally like from the event.

National High School Finals Rodeo

August 12, 2011

The sound of the tailgate barely closing on a car full of assorted gear marked the beginning of a trip up to Laramie, WY for my co-worker Matt Sewick and myself. There we met our company’s founder Mr. Rich Clarkson to begin making still pictures and photographs of the moving variety for the National High School Rodeo Association which is based here in Denver,CO. Rich has been photographing the National High School Finals Rodeo now for a little over 10 years. The video piece is currently being assembled by Matt but in the meantime I thought I’d throw out a few of my favorite stills from the experience. Thanks to everyone with the National High School Rodeo Association for making this a truly unique experience.

ESPN Summer X Games

August 9, 2011

Never a dull moment at the ESPN Summer X Games in Los Angeles,California. My job is one fluid movement from venue to venue making frames to appease the editors all while making frames that please myself. Here are a few from the event. Cheers.

Mountain West Conference Baseball

June 2, 2011

Seven baseball games over three days. Two slices of pizza. Three In-N-Out burgers with fries. Several rumors of a rattlesnake on the field. Four to five San Diego State University student fans heckling non-stop for two games. Two consecutive night chasing moments in fading evening sunlight. One surprise champion, the University of New Mexico.

The 2011 Men’s Division I Volleyball Championship

May 10, 2011

State College, PA is part of our country I’ve randomly had on my radar for quite some time. Primarily the fly fishing, but this week I had the opportunity to make the trip for the 2011 Men’s Division I Volleyball Championship. With the championship being held at historic Rec Hall on the Penn State campus I knew it would be visually pleasing and challenging all at once to walk away with great images. With that being said here are a few frames that I thought worked out well. I converted these into black and white in post merely because that’s what it felt like when I was there. A throwback in time. Enjoy.

Mountain West Conference

March 25, 2011

For several years now Rich Clarkson and Associates have had the Mountain West Conference photography contract. In that time, we’ve come to expect big things from the annual basketball tournament typically held in bustling Las Vegas, Nevada. This year Jimmer Fredette was the big show. While photographing 16 games in a span of five days may be tough on the legs and back it was all worth it to see some fantastic Men’s and Women’s basketball. These are a few of my favorites from the games.
