Over the last four years the kind folks at ESPN have been kind and trusting enough to set me free in land of action sports. As of two days ago the X Games announced some growth of their own when they presented the new World X Games host cities. I truly hope and believe that this succeeds.

This one was not painted in beautiful evening light nor was it the most decorated or popular sport by any means. What it did unearth was a goldmine of emotion. Loads. Needless to say, I’m now glad I accepted and willingly tried a sport I’ve never photographed before. Here are a few of my favorite images from this weekend.

Track and Field for the Mountain West Conference is always a visual stimulus overload. I’m photographing one event and on the opposite side of the arena I hear cheering. I resist the temptation to run quickly over to see what’s going on at the weight throw. Be concise I think to myself. Choose something and stick with it long enough. That becomes the mental challenge of the event.

The Division 1 Women’s Volleyball championship is one I’ve made a point of covering for the last couple of years. I personally enjoy going back and photographing the same championship more than one time. I tend to make better, more thought out, images when I can properly plan ahead of time. I’m already looking forward to next year. Cheers.

And for those same number of years I have also managed to neglect the mountain biking community. This season I got back on the mountain bike saddle for the first time in awhile. This is where I started my passion for bikes. On the trail. There seems to never be an exact plan for my photography but in this scenario I have high hopes to continue documenting a sport I truly love. Thanks for looking.

Many people attempt the summit of Longs Peak every year. Some make it to the famous Keyhole and even fewer make it all the way to the 14,255′ peak.
Ever since his summit attempt nearly ten years ago my father-in-law Jim has had the intent of checking this peak off of his bucket list. After 12 hours of hiking we completed the mission. Done. I always enjoy going to the mountains with Jim for one main reason. He truly appreciates them. I enjoy watching him staring in awe at their beauty. Thanks for another memorable trip Mr. Jim. Here’s to many more.
