For about 3 years I’ve been working on cycling culture documentary here in Colorado. And for those same number of years I have also managed to neglect the mountain biking community. This season I got back on the mountain bike saddle for the first time in awhile. This is where I started my passion for bikes. On the trail. There seems to never be an exact plan for my photography but in this scenario I have high hopes to continue documenting a sport I truly love. Thanks for looking.

Many people attempt the summit of Longs Peak every year. Some make it to the famous Keyhole and even fewer make it all the way to the 14,255′ peak.
Ever since his summit attempt nearly ten years ago my father-in-law Jim has had the intent of checking this peak off of his bucket list. After 12 hours of hiking we completed the mission. Done. I always enjoy going to the mountains with Jim for one main reason. He truly appreciates them. I enjoy watching him staring in awe at their beauty. Thanks for another memorable trip Mr. Jim. Here’s to many more.

I had every intention of making something different from this years Blue Sky Velo Cup in Longmont,Colorado. The weather seemed to have other intentions. I will fully admit that I’m not too great at lighting. That will change over time. One idea I had was to make black and white portraits of racers after they finished their races rather than the typical coverage I often lean on as a crutch. Long story short I was only able to make a few portraits before the weather got windy and rainy. Maybe next time. Thanks to all the racers and race directors that assisted in attempting to make this happen. Here are a few frames.

The transition of summer’s warmth to autumn’s cold fall mornings can only mean one thing. Opening day in Colorado’s high country. Last year I had the distinct pleasure of catching opening day action. Loveland, the very first to open in North America, beat it’s neighbor over the pass Arapahoe Basin. This rowdy crew waited in the parking lot all night to successfully secure their first chair status. SKI Magazine picked up my image for a double-truck in their Fall 2010 issue. Here’s to large quantities of snow in the mountains this season.

I’ve never been one to make images of subjects performing for the camera but last night had me thinking while out at the weekly cruiser ride in downtown Denver. I started to think about camera awareness in relation to the given subject. Many of the folks like to get in my field of view and perform for the camera usually I let them do their thing and politely move on and observe from a distance until they forget about my being there. I started to look at several of these images with the mindset that these kids are just being themselves regardless of them looking into my camera or not. In a way every subject alters their behavior when a camera is present sometimes we just fail to notice so. The ideal situation of true personality often shines through after continually documenting one subject for a prolonged period of time. This is trust. As photojournalists we live for this. People letting us into their lives. For now enjoy some canned moments alongside of some visual observations. Cheers.
