Seven baseball games over three days. Two slices of pizza. Three In-N-Out burgers with fries. Several rumors of a rattlesnake on the field. Four to five San Diego State University student fans heckling non-stop for two games. Two consecutive night chasing moments in fading evening sunlight. One surprise champion, the University of New Mexico.
It’s 89 degrees. I’m on the top of a parking garage on the San Diego State University campus. Oh yeah, I flew in from Denver wearing jeans, a jacket, and a fleece vest. Time to go change. That particular parking garage roof is home to the very soccer field where the 2010 Mountain West Conference Women’s Soccer Championships were held. Three days of chaotic soccer action have me grinning ear to ear as the suns light becomes beautifully directional. I’m in photographic heaven. Enjoy some of my favorites.
Track is fantastic. As a photographer I feel there are more opportunities to make different images with this sport. It becomes visual overload and my job is to sort through it all and make sense of the entire event. Different moments, angles, and lighting play a large role in the final outcome of the images.
Lockdowns, allergies to chlorine, and a PT Cruiser. Three items that have never had much relevance to the Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Oklahoma City until last weekend. Here are a few images which hopefully show, in a diverse way, what it’s like to spend three days in a pool.
